Why we are sticking native

We have recently been looking heavily into HTML5 hybrid apps, with technologies like phonegap reaching a very mature position we thought it might be time to consider the potential cost savings of “develop once and deploy for all”

As with all these things the devil is in the detail, and when you start looking under the hood this is where some of the problems creep in, to achieve true cross platform functionality you need to use a number of different contributed plugins which are actually different for different for platforms and are constantly being updated, the upkeep of which starts to chip away at time saved.

However the biggest draw back for me at the moment is on of performance, hybrid apps are noticeably slower. That may not be the case in a years or even a few months as technology moves so quickly. So never say never but for now we are sticking with native.
